New Students
The School
The school is organised into Key Stages:
- Key Stage 3 is made up of years 7, 8 and 9
- Key Stage 4 of Years 10 and 11
- Key Stage 5 of Years 12 and 13
In Key Stages 3 and 4, each year group is divided into ten tutor groups.
The tutor is the person who will know your daughter best. Please do not hesitate to contact your daughter’s tutor if necessary.
Students are carefully placed in tutor groups of about 28 students and usually remain with their tutor throughout their time at NSG. Occasionally individual students may move to another group if it is felt it will help their learning.
In Years 7 and 8 the students will be taught in tutor groups for most lessons except Mathematics and Technology.

Music
NSG has a long history of performance at local and national level. The school is well known for its achievements in Music. The choirs and instrumentalists have won many national and county awards.
This means there are many opportunities for all students to participate in, and enjoy, musical activities. Our aim is that all students who wish to learn to play a musical instrument can do so.
All students who already play an instrument at Primary School, or students who wish to start lessons at NSG, will be able to have lessons in school if they wish to do so. A small charge is made for instrumental tuition. Assistance may be given to students whose families are experiencing financial hardship. Currently we have over 400 instrumental and vocal lessons per week
Extra curricular music is a feature and strength of the school. We currently have 20 music activities for your daughter to choose from. Your daughter could join any of the following:
Big Band, Brass Ensemble, Clarinet Choir, Concert Band, Flute Choir, Madrigalis, Youth Choir, Soul Cafe, Saxophone Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, String Orchestra, Senior Wind Ensemble, Steel Pans, String Band, The Monochromes, ‘Tie Rack’, Ukulele Group, Wind Band, NSG Academy (song writing/circus/drama/dance and script writing group)
Where your daughter participates in music lessons at school they will be allocated an appropriate group to attend.
The school insurance does not cover musical instruments. Please check that you have your own insurance.
